The objects, from paintings or sculptures to toys or weapons, show a different yet essential dimension of medieval society.

The Musée de l’œuvre-Notre-Dame is the cathedral’s museum (l’oeuvre is the institution that has managed the construction and maintenance of the cathedral since the Middle Ages).  The museum also contains lots of medieval art.  However, you can also find medieval art at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Strasbourg.  Other museums include Musée Unterlinden in Colmar, and the Augustinermuseum in Freiburg, Germany.

The medieval period in Strasbourg is showcased at the Musée Historique which has been recently renovated.  Many other cities in Alsace, such as Haguenau, also have their own historical museum.
